Mook Lion’s coordinated three collaborative murals for the Architecture Otherwhere conference’s fringe projects. The murals aimed at providing the delegates with an insight into the city through the mural artworks, which were completed within walking distance of the conference venue.
The strangler fig captures the tension between the built environment and nature, which was one of the main themes of the conference. Strangler figs are found throughout Durban, clinging to building, and eventually crushing them if left un- interfered. It represents the resilience and strengths of nature. This mural was painted by Mook Lion and Tyran Roy.
