Hilcrest Primary-ParticipatoryMural

Guide-HilcrestPrimaryParticipatarymural

This mural was commissioned by the Hillcrest Primary School with the idea to involve the grade 6 and 7 learners in the process. The image of the two large elephants guiding the baby elephant through the jungle is a metaphor for the school’s and the parent’s role of guiding the students through life. The students designed their own geometric patterns which they painted on the borders of the mural. The involvement of the students made the work meaningful to the students who gained a sense of ownership of the space, validation of themselves and experience in mural painting. The mural was coordinated by Mook Lion who was assisted by Daniel Nel.
